Live from the Leaderboard, Dispatch #4: Celebrating Catchathon Results ๐Ÿ†

Our Ten Year Anniversary Catchathon wrapped on October 30, and super catcher caprarom is back with what he calls his fourth and final (?) dispatch. In his last report, Mike was watching a scramble for seventh place. This time, he runs down the final standings, including a late surge by Super Dave that left red marks all over his event notes.

He also crowns the winners of his unofficial skill metric and gives shoutouts to the teams that popped into the daily top ten in the last week. Take it away, Mike!

Report from Mike

We had some real action closing out our event thanks to Super Dave! Letโ€™s run down the Leaderboard result highlights.

Individual Rankings

  • No surprise that starider and Hasret finished 1 & 2 in the individual rankings after exploding out of the blocks leaving everyone else in their wake.
    • starider, of course, is currently Number One on our all-time leaderboard as well.
    • I don't know how long Hasret has been playing (his team was only created this past April), but Hasret is already up to 27th all-time, just ahead of YaTom.
  • Sitting pretty in third place, Norstan pretty much took the last week off.
    • Another newish (to me) catcher, Norstan has just made it into the top 50 all-time. More on Norstan later.
  • Rather than challenge for 5th spot, lscatcher settled comfortably into 6th position leaving super-in-many-ways Carol_aka_Mema in command of 5th where sheโ€™s essentially been the whole way. (Likewise, your correspondent has been ensconced in 4th.)
    • I should note that stalwart Carol did not alter her playing regimen for this event. Others of us (ahem, me) had to step it up a bit to be competitive.
    • Both long time SC Veterans, Carol is 5th on the all-time leaderboard and lscatcher is 6th. Hmmm โ€ฆ sounds vaguely familiar somehow โ€ฆ huh!
  • Iโ€™d speculated there might be a scramble for 7th, but ababbie distanced himself from the mysterious ALZ_BOT_X who settled (temporarily, it turned out) into 8th position, followed by jkaufbenefits (9th) and JADCOM_Media. So it stood on Thursday (the 29th) โ€ฆ But:
  • By then, Super Dave (JADCOM_Media) had kicked in the afterburners to put on a late surge. Not only did Dave overtake jkaufbenefits (10th), just in time for the cameras on Friday morning, but he continued to cruise by ALZ_BOT_X (9th) into 8th position. He ran out of time before he could reach ababbie in 7th.
    • Dave started late, a few days into the challenge, so watch out for him next time!
    • Dave recently made it into the top 20 on the all-time leaderboard! Oops! That was true on Friday. Now heโ€™s 19th! Itโ€™s thanks to Dave Iโ€™ve got red markings all over my event notes โ€“ thanks a lot, Dave!
    • abbabie is 24th on the all-time list and likely sees Hasret in his rear-view mirror.
    • ALZ_BOT_X is a strong 14th in the all-time rankings.
    • jkaufbenefits (jkb) is a heady 3rd all-time. One can learn interesting things about or from their catcher colleagues. For example, not only does jkb live in the worldโ€™s largest golf cart community; his dog has him trained to go out for walks every day at 5AM. But, I digress โ€ฆ

Team Rankings

  • starider & Norstan led the way with team Tracker.
  • Thanks to Hasret & XmamayX, team Acts of Science: Connected 2026 stayed within shouting distance in 2nd spot.
  • Not at all within shouting distance, team Stardust@Home took third.
  • Carolโ€™s team I See Stalls took 4th spot.
  • Ababbieโ€™s team GG took 5th.
  • In the last 24 hours of the event, Super Daveโ€™s afterburners boosted team Gentle Recall two places up to 6th.
  • Jkaufbenefits and YaTom brought the Retirees team to a solid 7th.
  • ALZ_BOT_X got the mysterious team Singularity2045 into 8th.
  • christiane came almost out of nowhere (from Belgium) in the last week to vault team krissi into 9th place in the scoring, but not in the team annotations.
  • The indomitable MS Give LLE Team hung on for 10th in the team scoring and 9th in team annotations.
  • The wise folks of the Microsoft Deal Desk team snagged 10th in the number of team annotations.

Should you wonder how the two Microsoft teams finished ahead of christiane in the number of annotations, the simple answer is that Iโ€™m hard pressed to name a better-quality catcher than christiane, who is spectacular and simply needs fewer annotations to rack up a big score. Larger teams usually have perhaps 3-5 accomplished catchers, but most of their teammates will have less experience and thus generally lower skill levels. So, they have to work harder to earn their placement in the Team Research Annotations category. You can find christiane in 7th spot on the all-time leaderboard.

Speaking of which โ€“ what about Skill? In this case, we mean the unofficial โ€œCrude and Dubious caprarom Skill Metric.โ€

  • As expected, Norstan hung on for top honors with a 1284.55 showing. Honorable mentions to caprarom and Hasret who were both advancing smartly on Norstan.
  • I am very pleased to announce, however, that the skill award in the team category goes to team Stardust@Home! That score, 1270.0, easily outdistanced every team except for Hasret and Xmamay in team Acts of Science: Connected 2026 with a very fine 1261.2.

Shout-outs for the last week

  • Christina_L. boosted the USA Girl Scouts Overseas - Japan team into the daily top-10 on Monday.
  • There was also team "Dhruv's Give Event" from the Microsoft Giving League with 11 players that I'd not previously seen.
  • Tuesday saw the USAGSO Girl Scout team from Austria in the daily top ten again.
  • Wednesday the "All-Verizon Squad" made the daily top ten listing. They have upwards of 854 team members - but they did not displace Microsoft EMEA MCAPS Finance as best I could tell for biggest active team bragging rights. If I counted correctly, they had 53 players active in October, just shy of the 55 that the Finance folks mustered.
  • Thursday, team โ€œWe Came, We Saw, We Stalled,โ€ an all (5) girl team (Roman girls, perhaps?) made it into the daily top ten.
  • Friend KarisFraMauro had team Canada on the Challege Leaderboard almost the whole distance until Wednesday when team Krissi bumped him out of the top ten. I note, however, that recently Karis moved into 12th spot on the Stall Catchers all-time leaderboard, passing the very esteemed Guy Calkins, one of our original Supercatchers.

I plan to continue playing on the Stardust@Home team at least until weโ€™re top 5 in the โ€œCitSci Games League.โ€ It wonโ€™t take long. We currently sit sixth of 28 teams. So, โ€œFinal Fantasy,โ€ currently sitting in 5th, this is your fair warning!

Thanks to everyone, including our Admin Team, for making this one of the smoothest Challenge events in ten years!

caprarom (aka Mike C.)
